Paul Street is an independent researcher, journalist, historian, author and speaker based in Iowa City and Chicago. He is the author of seven books on politics and history, as well as many articles in various media, and teaches history at colleges and universities in Chicago. David and Paul talk about the Electoral College, because this year’s election resulted in the winner of the popular vote not winning the Electoral College. They also discuss other problems with the electoral system, including the influence of money, the role of the media, voter suppression and alternative voting systems such as Instant Runoff or Proportional Representation. They also talk about the particular characteristics of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton that made the choice of who to vote for particularly difficult this year.
