Thirteen days after Hurricane Maria roared through the Caribbean ripping two U.S. territories to shreds, President Donald Trump today finally meets in person with Gov. Ricardo Roselló of Puerto Rico and Gov. Kenneth Mapp of the U.S. Virgin Islands to discuss recovery efforts.
Carmen Yulin Cruz, mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico’s capital city and one of Trump’s fiercest critics about the U.S.’s slow response to the dire conditions on the island, has not been invited to the meeting.
Police have identified 64-year-old retired accountant Stephen Paddock as the person who rained hell down on thousands of people attending an open-air concert Sunday night in Las Vegas. From a hotel room across from the concert venue, Paddock allegedly sprayed the crowd with a high-powered automatic rifle, pausing several times to reload. Police located him and shot him dead after forcing open the door to his room, reports said. The shooting left 59 dead and more than 500 wounded.
Horrific as it is, this is not just a “crime,” says Leid Stories.
