Paul R. Pillar – The Fragility of American Democracy

Efforts to export American-style liberal democracy to foreign lands have bumped up against the fact that the successful working of such democracy depends on habits and attitudes that are rarer than most Americans think and that take a long time to develop. That is a reality encountered in places such as Iraq. The relevant attitudes are not only hard to …

Solartopia Green Power and Wellness Hour – 06.30.16

Smart Alec and Diablo Canyon are with us today in Solartopia.

We begin with Matthew Cardinale who has formed a new progressive campaign for human legislation aimed at countering the horrific Koch-funded American Legislative Exchange Council. The Koch’s ALEC has polluted our government since the 1970s with a heavily funded flood of bad bills aimed at enthroning the rich and powerful. They have now issued a “cease and desist” letter to Cardinale demanding his Smart Alec stop trying to pass legislation that might actually serve democracy. This is a fun and informative conversation.

We’re then joined by Linda Seeley and Myla Reson to talk about the horrific decision by California’s State Lands Commission to not require an Environmental Impact Report at Diablo Canyon. The report is required under the California Environmental Quality Act. Myla and Linda are long-time activists devoted to shutting this horrendous atomic reactor complex upwind of Los Angeles. On Tuesday, June 28, the Lands Commission hearing resulted in a unanimous vote taken as a kick in the teeth by those wanting Diablo shut ASAP. Myla and Linda give us the inside story.

Clearing The Fog – Corean Peace Delegation Works for End to Korean War – 05.31.16

Three members of the Corean Alliance for Independent Reunification and Democracy (CAIRD) are in the United States on a peace expedition. They speak with us about the brutal history of the US’ involvement in Korea and their work to end the Korean War, bring reunification and build democracy. Their work builds on decades of work by Korean activists. Under the current leader, this work is being made even more challenging by the application of a National Security Law. We also discuss the impact of trade agreements on Korean farmers and workers.

Solartopia Green Power and Wellness Hour – 05.26.16

Election theft has run rampant through the primary season as electronic irregularities, precinct elimination, racially unbalanced long lines and much more have again made a mockery of our alleged democracy.

Myla Reson of southern California opens the show with descriptions of the upcoming Golden State primary. She also tells us of a major upcoming election protection event in Santa Monica Sunday, May 29, at 3pm, featured at www.Solartopia.org.

John Brakey tells us of his lawsuit attempting to force a new primary in Arizona where precinct elimination resulted in long lines, massive disenfranchisement and an unlikely victory for Hillary Clinton.

Lori Grace of the Sunrise Center in the Bay Area tells of an attempt to establish independent exit polling in California, where it has been abolished for this critical primary.

Attorney Cliff Arnebeck discusses the new lawsuit filed in Columbus, Ohio, demanding original raw exit polling data to find out who actually did win the Buckeye State’s primary.

Attorney Bob Fitrakis, my co-author of The Strip & Flip Selection of 2016: Five Jim Crows & Electronic Election Theft, explains how at least 10 of this year’s primaries would be disqualified under international law, and how Bernie Sanders should probably be the legitimate democratic presidential nominee.

If you care at all about a real democratic process in this country, don’t miss this show….
