POPPYLEAKS, PART 1 The Story of Bush 41 the Establishment Won’t Publish

With the end of the old Communist system, it seemed that free speech and a diversity of voices would flourish behind the former Iron Curtain. That certainly hasn’t happened in Russia. Even more troubling, though, is how the corporate media in the United States repeatedly fails to uncover and report the truth about recent American history. Consider the latest development: …

PETER FRANKOPAN – Declassified CIA documents reveal how disastrous America’s post-9/11 plans really were

Three possible triggers were envisaged – all of which could justify military action. Perhaps Saddam “moves against the Kurds in [the] north?” wondered Rumsfeld in November 2001; maybe a “connection to Sept 11 attack or to anthrax attacks” (following mailings to several media outlets and to two US senators in September 2001); or what if there were a “dispute over …

David Bromwich – Playing the Long Game on Iran

“We’re going to push and push until some larger force makes us stop.” David Addington, the legal adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney, made that declaration to Jack Goldsmith of the Office of Legal Counsel in the months after September 11, 2001. Goldsmith would later recall that Cheney and Addington were the first people he had ever met of a certain kind: …

Mainstream Journalists: Immune from Accountability if they Run with the Pack By Robert Parry

In my four decades in national journalism – I started at the Associated Press in 1974 – I have grown increasingly concerned about how Americans respond to information, or put differently, how propagandists package their messaging to elicit the desired response. In an age of cynicism, the trick is to get the “big ha-ha!” – convincing you to laugh at …
