No surprise, really, in how things turned out yesterday–Donald Trump triumphed in three of five states, Florida, Illinois and North Carolina; Marco Rubio lost his own state and ended his campaign; Ted Cruz remained win less but is hoping to capture Rubio’s supporters in a long shot bid to remain in the race; and John Kasich scored his first victory, his home state of Ohio.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton bested her lone opponent, Bernie Sanders, in four states—Florida, Illinois, Ohio and North Carolina—with the final vote in Missouri too close to call.
As Leid Stories said yesterday, Super Tuesday “more than likely will cause a whittling of the GOP’s four-man slate, and on the Democratic side, a locked lead on being the nominee.” With Clinton appearing to have that locked lead on the Democratic nomination, the question becomes: “What Will Bernie Do?”

The November 1 Warrior Connection was a very valuable discussion led by Denise Nichols, RN, (BS/ MS) and Doug Rokke with Dr Nick Osborne, Ph.D.- interim director of the Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, We discussed benefits, expectations, and support for veterans once they enroll in college and specifically under the auspices of this new UIUC program. We also expanded our discussion as applicable to other colleges and universities. Clearly the UIUC has a unique program. Doug a UIUC alumni (MS 1986, Ph,D, 1992) and retiree along with Denise who both have extensive college and military education/ training experience offered many valuable suggestions. Nick is in a unique position with tremendous maybe unsurpassed abilities to help student veterans succeed given he served as an enlisted sailor and then as a commissioned officer in the Coast Guard then rose through the ranks in academia. Nick has gathered a very capable staff too.

Last year Prof Kilgore was expelled from the university, under the weight of right wing media attacks. Following a campus-wide campaign by faculty, students and supporters, his teaching position was reinstated. James writes extensively on mass incarceration in the US; his articles appear regularly in Counterpunch and Truth Out. He has published three novels, all written during his six and half years in prison for political offenses committed in the 1970s. Earlier he lived as a fugitive in South Africa from 1991-2002.
