I’ll confess that my jaw dropped when I looked beyond the headlines about the Panama Papers last spring and began to read the fine print. “Panama Papers” is shorthand for the widely publicized report of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, originally published on April 3, 2016. The story broke simultaneously on the I.C.I.J. Web site and in newspapers around the world …
#1- Update on Gringo’s applying for residency in Latin countries: The residency rules and regs are changing rapidly and getting more complicated by the month. Though as of now, Guatemala residency is still the easiest and least expensive option for gringos who are seeking temporary or permanent residency in Latin America.

If you have a USD dollar income you will be more than OK, but if your livelihood depends on starting a new business- and getting paid in Colombian Pesos(they lost 33% buying power in the last year). Good luck with that! And its gonna bet worse…

Jack discusses this past week’s revelations out of Panama of the massive tax sheltering, avoidance and fraud by the US and global economic elites. The economic tax ‘wikileaks’ revelations show global politicians deeply implicated, including Iceland, UK, Argentina prime ministers. Edwina von Gal’s eponymous firm has been designing landscapes that are based on simplicity and nature for private and public clients since 1984. Edwina’s interest in plants, art and architecture has led to collaborations in widely diverse locations with a number of notable architects and artists including Annabelle Selldorf, Maya Lin , Richard Gluckman, Deborah Berke, Joe D’Urso, Frank Gehry, Richard Meier, Toshiko Mori, Richard Serra, Marilyn Minter, and David Salle.
Edwina’s landscapes have been published in most all of the major newspapers and design periodicals, plus a number of architecture, garden and landscape books. Her own book, Fresh Cuts, won the Quill And Trowel Award for Garden Writing. She has served on numerous boards and committees in the garden world and is currently on the LongHouse Garden Committee and the Board of Directors of Maya Lin’s “What is Missing” project.
In 2008 Edwina went to Panama to design a park for the Frank Gehry Biomuseo where co-founded the Azuero Earth Project which explores and implements sustainable, toxin-free land management practices in rural Panama. She then moved closer to home and, in 2013 founded the USA based Perfect Earth Project which promotes toxin-free lawns and landscapes.
