Thinking of leaving urban or suburban America to homestead? The pros, cons and challenges of making that transition, with Gary and guest Ben Hewitt. 

Ben Hewitt lives with is family in Cabot Vermont where they purchased an over-grazed pasture and neglected woodlot into a thriving homestead, producing nutrient dense food with permaculture design and relying on wildcrafting and regenerative agriculture.  The property is powered by windmill and solar panels. The Hewitts currently produce over 90% of their food needs and consult on homestead scale production and planning.  He is the founder of The Reskilling School which offers workshops on traditional land methods and skills.  Ben is the author of several books on the local food movement and food safety, and his most recent is “The Nourishing Homestead: One Back to the Land Family’s Plan for Cultivating Soil, Skills and Spirit” which is an excellent textbook for guiding people in the basics for homesteading  His website is BenHewitt.net and ReSkillingSchool.com
