Leid Stories—04.11.17

At an urgent meeting yesterday in Lucca, Italy, of G7 member-states, the focus was the situation in Syria and, specifically, last Thursday’s U.S. missile strike on a Syrian airfield. President Trump said it was retaliation for a chemical-weapons attack on Khan Sheikhoun, a town under the control of rebels fighting President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Trump said Assad himself was responsible for the Khan Sheikhoun attack, which killed almost 90 people and injured more than 500.

Leid Stories —04.10.17

The United States is at war with Syria, and the situation is escalating and rapidly deteriorating at the same time. Seventy-two hours after blaming President Bashar al-Assad for unleashing a deadly poison-gas attack on Khan Sheikhoun, a town under the control of rebels fighting Assad’s regime, Trump on April 7 ordered retaliatory bombing of a military airfield in Western Syria. The president’s unilateral action has touched off vigorous reaction and debate, both within the world community of nations and at home.

President Donald Trump vowed yesterday to take some kind of “responsibility” for helping to bring the murderous chaos in war-torn Syria to an end. What that “responsibility” would be, Trump wouldn’t say, but he made it clear the task was President Barack Obama’s and Obama did nothing.

Lawrence Davidson – Democrats Lost in a Corporate Wilderness

You would think that learning from experience is a common thing to do. But, for the Democratic Party’s leadership, this seems not to be the case. After the landslide victory of Trump’s version of the Republican Party in the 2016 national election, it is fair to say that the Democratic Party is in big trouble. As Sen. Bernie Sanders has …

ROBERT FISK – Do the Tragedies of Syria Signal the End of Arab Revolutions?

Just as the catastrophic Anglo-American invasion of Iraq brought an end to epic Western military adventures in the Middle East, so the tragedy of Syria ensures that there will be no more Arab revolutions. And it’s taken just 13 bloodsoaked years – from 2003 to 2016 – to realign political power. Russia and Iran and the Shia Muslims of the …

ERIC ZUESSE – The FBI’s Fake ‘Investigation’ of Hillary’s Emails

1: The FBI chose to ‘investigate’ the most difficult-to-prove charges, not the easiest-to-prove ones (which are the six laws that she clearly violated, simply by her privatization and destruction of State Department records, and which collectively would entail a maximum prison sentence of 73 years). The famous judge Jed Rakoff has accurately and succinctly said that, in the American criminal ‘justice’ system, since 1980 and especially after 2000, …

Qatar wanted a pipeline straight to Europe as its current gas transport modes were limited to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) tanker, mostly to Asia with limited spot shipments to Europeor the Dolphin pipeline to the United Arab Emirates and …

Ray McGovern – When Putin Bailed Out Obama

Three years ago, when a reluctant President Barack Obama was about to launch an attack on Syria, supposedly in retaliation for President Bashar al-Assad crossing a “red line” against using chemical weapons, Obama smelled a rat – or rather he sensed a mousetrap. Advised by some of his intelligence advisers that the evidence blaming the Syrian government for the lethal …
