Prof. John Mutter holds two professorships at Columbia University in NYC. One in the department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and another in the department of International and Public Affairs, where he is the Associate Director of the doctoral program in Sustainable Development. His scientific research has focused on ocean geography and marine seismology, and more recently on science based sustainable solutions for developing countries. He is a former deputy director of the Earth Institute and works with the International Council on Human Rights Policy which deals with the challenges of climate change and human rights. Prof. Mutter has also been awarded a fellowship with the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received degrees from the Universities of Melbourne and Sydney in Australia, and a doctorate in Marine Geophysics from Columbia University. He has authored over 70 scientific articles and many popular essays. Prof. James Kilgore is an author, community activist and a popular adjunct professor and a research scholar at the Center for African Studies at the University of Illinois. Last year Prof Kilgore was expelled from the university, under the weight of right wing media attacks. Following a campus-wide campaign by faculty, students and supporters, his teaching position was reinstated. James writes extensively on mass incarceration in the US; his articles appear regularly in Counterpunch and Truth Out. He has published three novels, all written during his six and half years in prison for political offenses committed in the 1970s. Earlier he lived as a fugitive in South Africa from 1991-2002. Prof. Joanna Bourke is a historian, social feminist and scholar from New Zealand and currently a professor of history in the Department of History, Classics and Archeology at Birkbeck University of London in the UK. Raised in New Zealand, Zambia, and Haiti, she has focused her research on the culture and history of war and fear, the history of rape and gender struggle, and the sociology of violence. She is the director of the Birkbeck Trauma Project, which attempts to understand the deeper contexts of traumatic events and how they are constructed and manifest over time. Joanna holds degrees from Auckland University and a doctorate from Australian National University. Last year she was elected a Fellow of the British Academy, which recognizes the highest distinction of scholarship in the humanities. Joanna has authored ten book on war and violence, her latest is “Deep Violence: Military Violence, War Play and the Social Life of Weapons.”

Prof Robert (Bob) Weber is an assistant professor in the psychiatry department at Harvard Medical School specializing in the psychology and spirituality of aging. A former Jesuit, he received the 2014 Forum on Religion, Spirituality and Aging Award from the American Society on Aging, an organization he has served on its leadership council. Bob has degrees from Princeton and Harvard universities and has founded and directed clinical psychology programs for a variety of psychotherapy associations. Together with gerontologist Dr. Jae Thibault, he started the Contemplative Aging site and more recently is the editor and chief blogger of SpiritualityOfAging.com. Robert is the co-author of a recent book, “The Spirituality of Age: A Seeker’s Guide to Growing Older.”
Joining Prof. Weber is his co-author Dr. Carol Orsborn. During the past 2 decades Carol has authored over 25 books, including “Fierce with Age: Chasing God and Squirrels in Brooklyn”, that deal with the quality of life for the Boomer generation and life’s stages of transition. She is the founder and chief editor of Fierce with Age, the Digest of Boomer Wisdom, and Inspiration and Spirituality.
